Warrios Hand Saugatuck First Loss of the Season

By Tyler Ray | Jan 22, 2026 8:49 PM

After a week that limited any sort of practice, the Warriors showed up ready to play Thursday night. WMC showed no rust in the opening quarter, scoring 25 points to jump out to an early lead. Saugatuck responded, tightening the game as the Warriors carried a six-point advantage into halftime. Saugatuck made a push early in the fourth quarter and briefly took a 41–40 lead, but WMC responded with strong execution on offense and timely stops down the stretch. The Warriors held off a late surge to secure a 59–55 victory. Madie Folkema led all scorers with 25 points, 14 of which came in the second half, while also adding 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Abigail Derdowski had her best game of the season, recording a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double. Eveline Derdowski contributed 8 points and 6 assists. “I’m so proud of this team for their effort tonight,” said coach Tyler. “We had every excuse to start slow, and instead we came out firing. Kevin runs a great program at Saugatuck and always presents a challenge. They are a tremendous team, and it took everything we had to come out on top. Abigail stepped up in a big way—she’s capable of that every night, and it was great to see her success tonight.”
