Varsity vs Allendale High School (3 - 1) Win It wasn’t the start WMC had hoped for—but it turned into a statement win. WMC found themselves trailing 0-1 early in the match against Allendale, as players adjusted to new positions and roles on the field. The early deficit tested their composure, but not their resolve. That resilience began to show as the first half wore on. WMC finally broke through with a beautifully executed goal from Allie Buchner, assisted by Joslyn Burr, evening the score and shifting the momentum. Not long after, Kaylie Riksen delivered a brilliant ball forward that set up Lilly Heimiller. Fighting through a breakaway, Lilly Heimiller unleashed a beautiful long-distance strike to give WMC a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. The second half began with urgency, as WMC knew the importance of the next goal. They attacked immediately, earning a corner kick that proved decisive. Ellie Riksen sent in a perfectly placed ball, and Gilly-Anne found herself in the right spot, finishing cleanly to extend the lead. Defensively, WMC held strong behind goalkeeper Elaina Clapp, who delivered an outstanding performance with five crucial saves on six shots. After the match, Coach McFarland praised the team’s determination: “This group is so resilient. Coming in down bodies and gaining more injuries tonight, the girls stepped up and did what needed to be done to get the result.” Despite early adversity, WMC proved they are a team that refuses to back down—turning a slow start into a hard-earned victory.
