WMC Honors Alia Zuidema with strong showing at Showcase The Alia Zuidema Showcase brought together competition, community, and remembrance, as WMC faced two talented opponents in a meaningful day of soccer. Game One: Defensive Battle Against NorthPointe Christian WMC opened the showcase against a highly skilled NorthPointe Christian squad in a fast-paced, end-to-end contest. Both teams created numerous scoring opportunities, displaying attacking quality and determination throughout the match. Despite chances on both sides, it was NorthPointe Christian that broke through, capitalizing on a chaotic scrum inside the box to find the game’s lone goal. WMC continued to push forward, generating multiple opportunities, but ultimately fell just short in a 0–1 result. ⸻ Game Two: WMC Responds with Offensive Explosion Facing a strong Calvin Christian team in game two, WMC wasted no time setting the tone. Just 30 seconds into the match, Emersyn Paling created a moment of brilliance, delivering a perfectly placed pass to Mia Oppenhuizen, who finished emphatically to give WMC an early lead. Momentum stayed firmly with WMC as Eve Pollock added another goal, sending the team into halftime with a 2–0 advantage. Calvin Christian managed to respond with a goal of their own, but WMC answered decisively: * Elaina Clapp extended the lead off another contribution from Pollock * Ellie Riksen showcased individual skill to cap off the scoring WMC secured a convincing 4–1 victory to close out the day. ⸻ More Than the Game Following the showcase, Coach McFarland reflected on the deeper meaning behind the event: “Special, special day. Incredibly thankful for NPC and Calvin for joining us. It’s been community that has been able to get us through these last three years.” “The Zuidema family is incredible — their strength, their love, and courage.” “Today was so much more than soccer. It was a continuation of remembering an incredible kid, celebrating the life she lived, and the memories she made.” ⸻ The Alia Zuidema Showcase proved to be more than just a set of matches—it was a powerful reminder of how sport can bring people together to honor, remember, and celebrate something far greater than the game itself.
