WMC Warriors take 2nd place at Grant Invitational The Warriors girls tennis team battled through a long day and a rain delay to earn a strong second-place finish at the Grant Invitational on Saturday. The team stayed focused and competitive throughout the tournament, earning first-place finishes in two flights and runner-up finishes in three others. Their determination helped secure an impressive overall team performance. Seniors Audrey Kingshott and Lauren Olsen took first place at 4 Doubles, beating Grant (6-4, 7-6) and Fremont (6-0, 6-0), while Junior Elisabeth Kenny and Sophomore Linnea Larson took first place at 3 Doubles with wins over Grant (6-0, 6-0) and Fremont (6-2, 6-1). Sophomore Hadley Noonan took second place at 3 Singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Fremont and a 6-0, 6-1 win against Muskegon Catholic Central. Seniors Annalise Bonnema and Meaghan Van Bruggen finished in second place with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Grant and a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fremont. At 2 Doubles, Seniors Mia De Jonge and Evie Zenz took second place with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Fremont and a 6-0, 6-2 win against Muskegon Catholic Central. Even the players who didn’t come away with wins Saturday competed hard, stayed positive, and helped keep the team’s energy up throughout the day.
