The Western Michigan Christian boys golf team capped off an outstanding season by earning a runner-up finish at the 2026 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 State Finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University. The Warriors entered the final round holding a one-stroke lead and battled throughout the tournament before securing second place in the state with a two-day team score of 662. Western Michigan Christian showcased remarkable depth and consistency throughout the event. Senior Ian VanderStelt and Junior Lucas Weare led the way with two-day totals of 166, while Alex Annema finished close behind with a 167. Zach Weare carded a 169, and Braeden Olsen added a 171 to round out the Warriors' scoring. The state runner-up finish, WMC’s first since 2010, is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance displayed by the team throughout the season. Competing against the best programs in its division, the Warriors represented Western Michigan Christian with excellence, sportsmanship, and determination. Success for the Warriors extended beyond the fairways and greens this year. Along with their outstanding performance on the course, the team earned Academic All-State honors with an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.663. Senior Zach Weare also received individual Academic All-State recognition—an honor awarded only to seniors—while maintaining an exceptional 3.958 GPA.
